Curran wins Dunedin South nomination
As expected, Clare Curran has won the Labour nomination for Dunedin South, and is almost certain to become an MP.
Successful challenges to sitting MPs is not unknown in National. Three of the current caucus challenged a sitting MP to win the nomination off them. However this is the first time in recent history I can recall a successful challenge to a sitting Labour MP. In one sense, David Benson-Pope may have made history.
Clark will be pleased with the decision. It would not have been a good look if Benson-Pope had won.
