An Independent Kosovo

Kosovo has declared independence.  This is backed by the United States, and almost all of Europe. The major opponents are Russia and Serbia – which it used to be part of.

Now many people portray the US as anti Muslim, as a nation of Christian fundamentalists.

Well 90% of the population of Kosovo are Sunni Muslims.  These Muslims have been protected by the US and NATO for many years, and if it were not for their protection, Serbia would no doubt have invaded at this declaration of independence.

Serbia – the country Kosovo has declared independence from, is 84% Eastern Orthodox and 6% Roman Catholic so over 90% Christian.

Now of course the US actions in Kosovo does not mean everything the US does in foreign policy is good and beyond criticism.  But it does provide an antidote to the hysterical claims that the US is anti-Muslim and controlled by Christian fundamentalists.
