Sanctions policy criticised

I doubt anyone can disagree with The Press’s criticism of the inconsistent nature of the Government’s sanctions policy towards Fiji.  The key para:

The ease with which sanctions can be undone is shown in New Zealand’s refusal to allow children connected to the Fiji dictatorship’s elite attend the Christchurch scout jamboree. Mild criticism greeted the move, but the criticism grew when the Prime Minister’s secretary was allowed entry. Children, the critics rightly said, were barred from a fun event but a leading member of the dictatorship was allowed in to sit at his wife’s bedside. The critics would have been less effective had the Government consistently enforced its ban.
