Delegate Count
The delegate count for the US presidential nominations is worth looking at. On the Democratic side it is:
- Clinton 183
- Obama 78
- Edwards 52
One needs 2,025 for a majority. Clinton looks well ahead but of her lead of 105 is due to her having 106 more super delegates than Obama.
For the Republicans it is:
- Romney 42
- Huckabee 21
- McCain 19
- Thompson 6
- Paul 2
- Giuliani 1
They need 1,191 for a majority.
Next state is Nevada on the 19th plus South Carolina for Republicans only on the same day.
In Nevada the latest Democratic poll is Obama 32%, Clinton 30% and Edwards 27% so could go to any. For the GOP it is McCain 22%, Giuliani 18%, Huckabee 16%, Romney 15%.
South Carolina looks pretty good for McCain – 28% to 19% for Huckabee. If McCain wins both Nevada and South Carolina he will become the one to beat.
