Deforestation
National has just done a press release highlighting the hypocrisy of David Parker preaching overseas about the need to end global deforestation, when their own policies in NZ have led to deforestation
“Deforestation in New Zealand will top six million trees this year. This comes on top of losses of three million trees in 2004, 2005, and 2006. New Zealand planted more trees than it felled for every year from 1951, when records began, until 2003.
Deforestation contributes to global warming, so goes totally against the rhetoric of carbon neutrality. Anyway I thought I would make a graph out of the data with the PR about net planted forest area.
Another case of all rhetoric, and no action. Actually in this case it is worse than inaction. Their actions have caused a 50 year trend of expanding forests to slow and then reverse.
