Roy standing for Wellington Central
ACT Deputy Leader Heather Roy has announced she is standing for Wellington, and has launched her own website for this.
Heather’s my second favourite ACT MP. Nah – just kidding – first equal with Rodney 🙂
More seriously, this is a good move for ACT. Wellington Central has one of the highest party votes for ACT in the country. I can’t see any scenario where Grant Robertson won’t retain this seat for Labour (the combined Labour/Green party vote is very high), but it is high profile and having Heather stand here will increase her profile and ACT’s profile in the campaign.
What will be interesting is who stands for National and also who stands for the Greens. If I were the Greens I would stand Russel Norman here as this is the best party vote seat in the country for the Greens. If for some reason the Greens looked to get below 5%, Norman could ask voters to vote tactically and vote for him so they do not have centre left votes wasted.
