How’s this for irony?
Labour keep citing as justification for their draconian Electoral Finance Bill, the fact that National spent some money (it wasn’t in fact very much) outside the 90 day period on their billboards.
Labour of course have themselves spent money in the past outside the 90 day period. It’s only when someone else does it, that it needs to be outlawed.
But here’s the irony. Under Labour’s companion Appropriations Bill, National could have the taxpayer pay for a million dollars worth of billboards before and during the election campaign. They wouldn’t have to change one word – just stick a crest on them.
Labour claim they are against big money in the campaign. This is false. They are all in favour of big money – they just want more of it by using taxpayer money.
