No as we keep being told that we are a multi cultural society perhaps we just need to look at some of our new migrant’s cultures and incorporate a few more of their holidays and festivals into our calendar.

I’m happy to have a day off because of somebody else religious beliefs in the same way non Christians take Christmas and Easter off.

An Apology.

Yesterday and the day before I stated here that Audrey Young political Editor of the Herald and the HErald itself were too corrupted by fear of government retribution to discuss the EFB. I even made slights against Audrey Young’s ability to ‘join the dots’ re the EFB APpropriation Pledge Card, etc. I also suggested the media thinks that the public is too thick to understand tht EFB so the Media are not touching the subject.

Today the Herald printed a guide to the EFB and Pledge card rort, written by Audrey Young. If you, or anyone at the Herald are reading this. I a truly apologetic for my rants, and thank you for belatedly coming to the table.

Qualified bit – Better late than never.

also interesting to see the media (Jane Clifton) gave that self serving prick Cunniffe a swot over being a prat in parliament yesterday.

Words like “I’m running this show” will no doubt have been filed away for future reference. I also loved Tony Ryall’s reference to the “Health Ministers’ graveyard” – with Hodgson & King now benchmates – precious!

Bloggers will call me depraved but I watched Parliament on Tv last night, only briefly. I watched Brian Donnelly speak on the, get this,
“The Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Deletion Bill”
Brian’s NZ First Party put the bill through, and it was soundly roasted.
But the interesting part is that the Bill is actually common sense. This is because nobody, I repeat NOBODY, knows what any of the principles of the Treaty are. So to automatically put in every piece of legislation about education that the institution involved therein must observe the principles of the Treaty is absolutely stupid.
Because, I repeat, nobody knows what the principles are.
National, also known as Liarbour Lite, voted against it. Act abstained. The Maori party that did vote against it, well, they know as much about the principles of the treaty as they know about 18th century Maori literature.

SUPERMARKETS TO BE BANNED

Following the accident to 5 year old Suzie Tweedle yesterday, the Government has announced that all supermarkets are to be banned. Prime Minister Helen Clark advised “The Government can no longer stand aside and allow these risks to our children to continue. Clearly the only course of action is to ban all supermarkets”. Suzie’s mother Chrissie said “This should have happened years ago. If the Government had done their job job my daughter would not have been injured”. National Party leader John Key released a statement supporting the ban.

HELP – where does it stop.

Gerry Brownlee: I raise a point of order, Madam Speaker. I am just a little confused. The question on the sheet is in the name of Russell Fairbrother. Mr Fairbrother is here. Why then is the question being asked by a colleague, Madam Speaker? The rules are pretty straightforward, I would have thought.

Madam SPEAKER: I was also a little taken by surprise myself, but the question has been asked. It is appropriate. Would the Minister now please address it.

Gerry Brownlee: I raise a point of order, Madam Speaker. Can you tell us where the Standing Orders allow this particular arrangement, because this would be a new ruling on your part?

Madam SPEAKER: The advice is that the member cannot ask it. So I will ask Russell Fairbrother to please ask the question.

RUSSELL FAIRBROTHER (Labour) What initiatives for the development of the tourism industry has he received recently?

Hon DAMIEN O’CONNOR (Minister of Tourism): The New Zealand Tourism Strategy 2015 was launched today. The strategy provides a framework for the growth and development of tourism in New Zealand to 2015. The industry has set new targets to boost visitor satisfaction and to increase the amount of money that each and every visitor to this country spends. Implementing the strategy, which is a joint Government and industry initiative, will ensure that tourism is valued as the leading contributor to a sustainable New Zealand in 2015. And can I say that my benchmate Darren Hughes was very enthusiastic about the cover of the document.

Darien Fenton: How will this new initiative contribute to the Government’s sustainability objectives?

Hon DAMIEN O’CONNOR: Sustainability is at the forefront of this Government’s agenda. The strategy sets new targets to help us measure our progress in delivering our ultimate goal, which is sustainable tourism. The strategy encourages the tourism sector to take a lead role in protecting and enhancing our environment. This includes improving energy efficiency and reducing waste.”

The word in the General Debate was that Fairbrother refused to ask the “patsy”. The worst element though was that Wilson tried to circumvent the rules, and had to back down. Check out the points of order made by Brownlee – what Hansard does not show is the long pause while the new Clerk of the House told Wilson she had got her ruling on his first point of order wrong!

Lee C: In my opinion your apology to the Herald is completely out of place.
The Herald and a number of their feature writers have received a huge amount of information and done absolutely nothing to investigate.

It is only your unremitting efforts and others, that have shamed them into going into print. The power of the Bloggers will oust corruptness. I have sent Audrey Young material in the past, with no response. I cannot be certain if the EFB was one of the subjects. When you email a reporter as invited by their email supplied, there is no record. The only reporter who reported my police complaint against Fields was Ruth Berry, and I haven’t seen an article by her for a long time.

Tauhei Notts: There were no principles in any of the various Treaty of Waitangi, and interpretations of same, that are in existence. It will be pleasing if the new curriculum prints all copies and explains how a naval officer hijacked the intentions of the Foreign Secretary Lord Normanby and substituted his own version.

It is our Founding Document, a monument to corruption then and up to today.

I have a question. Does anyone else have every comment they ever make at the Standard deleted? Were I an egomaniac like Robinsod I would assume that this was because I was so effective at “kicking [leftie butt”. But I am humble by nature, and assume it is something technical. Does anyone know?

Thanks for the heads up. I note that on the Herald it said the main reason was the Act was ‘almost impossible’ to apply to home grown terrorists.

REAKING NEWS: The Solicitor-General has decided he is unable to charge 12 people under the Terrorism Suppression Act.
New Zealand’s anti-terror laws … Listen to audio

David Collins QC announced his decision just after 4pm.

“The Terrorism Suppression Act legislation is unneccesarily complex, incoherent and as a result almost impossible to apply to the domestic circumstances observed by the police in this case,” the Solicitor-General said.

“Some may try to interpret my decision as a criticism of the police. Nothing could be further from the truth.”

He said he believed the police had sufficient and proper basis for investigating the activities in question.

He said he had examined many hundreds of pages of intercepted communications and a large number of photographs taken by the police as well as video footage and that not all of the evidence would become public.

………Undoubtedly the Solicitor General found that very serious actions and conspiracies were occurring here but the legislation was such a complex cockup that it was useless….As I thought most of the facts will be suppressed and the Public will never be in a position to judge whether justice has been done. Does anyone think that Geoffrey Palmer and his law commission are capable of framing simple workable legislation.
