Dom Post pokes fun
Saturday’s Dom Post editorial can’t resist directing its normal satire towards David Cunliffe with his declaration that he is now running things in Health.
Now whenever there is a problem, voters and opposition politicians will remind Mr Cunliffe that he is the man who says he is running things, and then inquire what he plans to do about the disaster of the day. Mr Cunliffe shows no doubts that he will be able to give an answer, and give a good one.
He is a man of not inconsiderable abilities. What became abundantly clear this week is that he is also a man not given to hiding his light under a bushel. Instead, his inclination is to clear-fell the area, set up some searchlights to add to his own brilliance, and issue invitations to a son et lumiere show.
When Mr Cunliffe has sorted out the health system – probably by Wednesday lunchtime at the latest – we don’t doubt he will be on the telephone to United Nations secretary general Ban Ki-moon and United States President George W Bush. After all, who else has the skills needed to settle the Iran crisis, come up with the perfect exit strategy for Iraq and deal with that spot of bother in Pakistan?
Heh.
