John Dewar has been given four and a half years for peverting the course of justice. Good.

I really dislike this bastard.

In the final weeks of his fall, instead of going down like a man he and Rickards attempted to manipulate the system to harass Nichols some more.

Initially I thought Nichols and her supporters were rabid feminists, but now I can’t think of a fate bad enough for Dewar.

It’s a real shame the guy he was protecting is still loose and acting like an idiot. It’s even worse that he has the protection of being acquitted. Surely that needs to be revisited now Dewar has been convicted.

For once DPF you and I agree – my one concern is that four and a half years is a hell of a lot less than his mates would’ve got if he hadn’t done what he did.

What does the insanity sentencing trust (substitute the world sentence for life) have to say about this I wonder, or Greg O’Connor?

I may be wrong, but I think all these cases will go down as miscarriages of justice on a scale that puts Thomas and Ellis in the shade.

Clearly he wasn’t a member of the Labour Party. He wouldn’t have got charged in the first place as it wouldn’t have been in the interests of the public.

The defense money can buy is a Labour Party membership.

No, the Labour Prime Minister who committed fraud and forgery, the Labour Cabinet Minister that bashed, tortured and perved at kids at school, The labour Cabinet minister who exposed himself in Hotel corridor, the Labour cabinet Minister that filed a false declaration at the companies office, the Labour government that changed the law so a private prosecution couldn’t proceed, the Labour government that stole thousands, said they never did and then changed the law to prove the point……….and so on.

The First of the Many.

Don’t forget Clint Rickards was the Officer in Charge, Commissioners Support Group, and that the Commissioner referred allegations of corruption against Senior Police Officers to him, which he successfully buried.

This is called: Preventing and defeating the course of justice” and this action was performed by a Police Officer, in the Service of the Crown, now appearing before a Police Disciplinary Board Tribunal for a piffling breaking Police Regulations charges!!!!

Shane Arden, thanks for that, it’s been bugging me ever since that guy subsequently got arrested for endangering the public with the burning flag in the same location (well a few meters away). How did he get away with driving several tons of rusty steel up the steps and a 10 second fire gets an arrest?

Getting back on track, doesn’t it seem reasonable that the guy who was acquitted thrice thanks to Dewar, and Schollum, Shipton and Rickards should all be retried over anything they were found not guilty of?

Whale – you are truly a munter. Oh and seeing as we’re not gonna avoid teh party politics I should point out that Goff talked about changing the double jeopardy rule a couple of years ago so we could retrial in situations like these. At the time I disagreed with him but now I’m not so sure.

Or you would have had to prosecute a huge majority of teachers from back then. I remember the whole 4th form being lined up (boys) for the cane, when we played (ruined) the rugby field in the rain. But lets not relive that whole silly saga.

What happened with Arden, was it not in the public interest or is he spending 8-10 in the insanity sentencing trusts maximum secruity unit for the never to come out again? I remember the video well, thinking what a fucking maniac that could come unstuck very quickly.

But since we are amongst friends 😛

If these charges are indeed what Dewar committed then there are consequences for actions…. BUT
Was anybody else disturbed by how easily what’s her name lulled him into speaking into a concealed microphone, all old friends type preamble?
That really bothered me and I wouldn’t have had any qualms with the outcome if not for that incident.

So both sides used dirty tricks. It really does mirror politics.

Dewar began the trial by showing up in his police uniform, explicitly against police rules. He was obviously trying to swing the jury into seeing him in a particular light.

I’m not so shocked, but I do believe there should be consequences for such behaviour that extend beyond the scope of just one trial.

This charge needs to be sought on more occasions by Crown Prosecutors – there are so many people who should be in jail that get off due to obsfucation by a key witness.

This should stand as a powerful example not to lie in your statement. Also, how do the police expect people to give their statements fully and honestly if they themselves aren’t prosecuted for their own misactions.

Are you sure about that nih? I think that you might find that was Rickards, at his second trial – and that is one of the counts he is facing disciplinary action over.

That’s a good sentence for Dewar’s offending – more than half of the maximum. His protestations of innocence won’t have won him any favours from the sentencing judge. Likely as not, he will end up in Te Moenga Unit in Wanganui Prison, where the worst of the sex offenders, witness protection prisoners and ex or current cops go – for their own protection. I would far rather he spent some time anong the general prison population though!

Excellent example of a witty response there Paul.

Since the first sentence of the Herald story is “Former policeman John Dewar has been sentenced to four and half years in jail on charges of perverting the course of justice.” [sic] I was merely pointing out that he will likely only serve 1.5 years in jail, as a result of Labour reforms that you obviously support.

Even that length is likely to very hard for Dewar to endure. Can’t be easy being a cop locked up.

Please quote where I said to put him away for ever….

That poor lady 20 years of hell for her family and the court wouldn’t let her read a letter at sentencing of a vicious criminal ?

Anyone who weilds beurocratic power – eg: policeman, politician, etc. should get the maximum sentances when they are found guilty of using that power in anyway that perverts the course of justice.

Dewar should have gotten the maximum sentance available, and if that bum from Mangere is found guilty, then he should get the maximum as well.

Its not as though they arent told all this as part of their jobs – they new what the rules were.

The Herald reports this morning that the starting point for Dewar was six years, but the judge knocked eighteen months off taking into account that “he would suffer “additional hardship” in prison as a former high-ranking officer.”

Give me a break! That is precisely the reason that Dewar should have an extra eighteen months ADDED to his sentence, not discounted!

Unbelievable this creep gets a concession on his sentence because he was a former policeman!!! As Inventory sayes this is precisely the reaon he should have been slammed with the full sentence. Diddums for Dewar, he’s a tad worried about his reception in jail…Oh dear, how very sad. The judge got it bang on in one respect though when he stated that Dewar “had a remarkable capacity for self delusion and avoidance”. The same should be said of his cohorts Rickards, Shipton & Schollum who continue to vehemently deny and wrongdoing & vigorously & venomously continue to attack Louise Nicholas! Karma works in mysterious ways. The naive & vulnerable LN has become a confident, strong & corageous woman whos achievements are celebrated by many versus the once ‘powerful & predatory’ SS&R who are now nothings who are reviled by most of society. At the risk of sounding boring by rehashing previous postings … “Be sure your sins will find you out” & a lie told a 1000 times over is still a lie!

Unbelievable he was convicted as he clearly didn’t believe Louise Nicholas was telling the truth and there is a fair bit of evidence that she wasn’t. Nicholas presumably thinks she was always in the wrong time for the seven or so rapes she claims, doesn’t seem to take any responsibility for her own actions.

Actually Topcat it’s not Dewars ( or any other member of the police force for that matter) place to determine believability. It’s their duty to investigate and put the matter before the court to determine if the burden of proof is met. And when one of these matters did get to court Dewar through the case by submitting inadmissable evidence and THAT is what he has been done for …called perverting the course of justice. Perverting is right, should be incarcerated on that score alone. Hard to imagine anyone suggesting a 13 year old should be taking responsibility for the actions of an adult male police officer actually. Quite telling that you think she should. I challenge you to read LN’s book and then you may understand why she was victim to so many. Not as uncommon as you may think as sexual crime evidence demonstrates. Many victims ( or survivors) of sexual abuse sadly are targeted by predators for many reasons including their vulnerability & their lack of self worth. Perhaps you know a 13 year old Topcat…how ‘wordly’ is she??? They’re kids at this age. FFS LN had not even started mensturating when she was first raped! Pretty tragic when we start painting the victim as the villain. Rot in jail Dewar & on your deathbed I hope you rot in hell as well!
