Cheaper Jails
Corrections have had massive blow-outs in their budget for building new prisons. An independent review has found ways to build them cheaper:
- Less pretty landscaping (I am amazed this has to even be stated)
- Communal toilets
- Allowing private sector management
- No need to paint every cell
- A less onerous RMA process
- Reducing the size and quality of cultural facilities for inmates
Naturally I support all of these. We don’t need five star prisons. We need functional prisons which comply with safety and health regulations.
