Poll on Media
Roy Morgan has done a poll in Australia on what people think of the media. It isn’t pleasant:
- 85% believe that Newspaper journalists are often biased
- 74% believe TV reporters are often biased
- 69% believe that Talk-back radio announcers are often biased.
- 49% believe Internet sites are often biased.
Oh this is hilarious. People think talkback hosts are less biased than newspaper journalists. That is what they should be discussing at the EPMU conference! And Internet sites are seen as the least biased. Now this is Australia, not NZ, but still very funny.
- 62% say newspaper journalists often get facts wrong
- 55% say TV reporters and journalists often get facts wrong
- 51% say Talk-back radio announcers often get facts wrong
- 77% say Television reporters and journalists invade people’s privacy unnecessarily
- 69% say Newspaper journalists invade people’s privacy unnecessarily
- 22% say Talk-back radio announcers invade people’s privacy unnecessarily.
And in terms of media bias, people were asked if groups were too left-wing leaning or right-wing leaning:
- Newspaper journalists 24% LW, 19% RW
- TV Reporters 20% LW, 15% RW
- Talk-back Radio 15% LW, 24% RW
- Internet sites 7% LW, 5% RW
