Copyright (New Technologies) Bill
The Herald has an article on the Copyright (New Technologies) Bill which will soon be passed into law. I’m quoted lamenting that format shifting only applies to sound and it will still be illegal to copy a movie onto say your video Ipod, even though you have legally purchased the DVD.
I also ping the provision that says it is illegal to keep a copy of a TV show you have recorded for longer than the time necessary to watch it at a more convenient time. In theory everyone will have to wipe over their VCR tapes every week.
As Peter Griffin says most people will ignore the law anyway. Just a pity when Parliament passes laws that they know people will ignore because it undermines overall respect for the law.
