237 reasons to have sex

Stuff has an article on research into why people have sex.  Amazingly 237 different reasons were given.

“It’s fun” works for me, which was the 4th most common response for men and 8th most for women.

Interestingly they found that generally gender differences were not that great, rebutting the myth men mainly seek sex for pleasure and women mainly for love.

Some of the reasons given include:

• I wanted to feel closer to God.
• I wanted to get a promotion.
• I wanted to feel connected.
• I wanted to keep my partner from straying.
• I wanted to have a baby.
• I wanted to give someone else a sexually transmitted disease.
• I wanted the attention.
• I wanted to break up a rival’s relationship.
• It seemed like good exercise.
• My partner kept insisting.
• The person was too hot to resist.
• I was bored.

Ha, a female friend of mine did once sleep with her flatmate just because she found his girlfriend whiny and annoying, so wanted him to dump her.

I quite like the last two reasons.  Too hot to resist and I was bored.  I mean how can oen argue against either of those?

So the top three are basically the same regardless of gender.  It must be intelligent design at work 🙂
