Random Encounter II
Had a lunch meeting on Monday with some folks giving a cool preview of a new website which will launch next month. I go upstairs at Boudeaux Bakery to meet the three of them, and when introduced to the third person, F, we both instantly recognise each other, but for the life of us can’t work out when or how. Just that we seem very familiar. We try for a minute or two to place each other, but no luck.
Around quarter of an hour later, when she mentions her area of speciality, it suddenly clicks. We hadn’t met each other years ago, but had been in a meeting together the previous Wednesday! And not a large or quick meeting, but a meeting of just seven people which lasted two hours.
We both find it hilarious that we failed to place each other just five days later. For me, this was even more unusual, as F is strikingly attractive, and not someone one would normally forget.
We sort of rationalised that the inability to place each other was because of the change in environment. The week before we met in Auckland and I was there wearing my InternetNZ hat and she was there in association with ICT-NZ. This week it was in Wellington on a totally different issue, with me in my role as a blogger and a market researcher and F in her commercial role.
Have others had similar, when you fail to place someone you just met a couple of days ago because it was in a different setting? Or maybe I just have early senility!
