Poor little foot soldiers
You can only feel sorry for the poor little Labour MPs last night. ACT proposed an amendment to the Sentencing and Parole Act restoring the automatic right of the victims of crime to attend parole hearings.
Labour MPs were in full flight opposing the amendment and saying why it was bad law. And then Mark Burton got up and announced Labour would be voting for it.
I suspect he had some angry backbenchers to placate, for not working it out earlier to save them looking stupid.
It could almost become a famous John Kerry type quote – “I spoke against it before I voted for it” 🙂
