It has been interesting to observe that since her drop in the polls, the Government has had a clear policy of having the PM in the news every day on almost every issue.

The latest is on the failed eviction case against state house tenants. Normally this would be handled by the CEO of Housing NZ or maybe just maybe by the Minister in charge. But to have the Prime Minister personally calling for an urgent report from Housing NZ, over an individual eviction is quite absurd.

It is quite normal for the PM and the Opposition Leader to front major announcements and issues for their colleagues. That happens all the time. But the definition of “major” is shrinking. Soon we’ll have the PM announcing the monthly food price statistics.
