Civil Service Pay Rates
I blogged back in March how for the first time ever, public sector CEOs were earning more than private sector CEOs.
The Independent has a front page story today comparing public sector rates today with 1999. The number of civil servants earning more than $100,000 a year has risen 375% from 560 to 2,651. This excludes CEOs, the police and the defence force.
As I remarked back in March, one does need to pay market rates. But in the private sector the higher salaries tend to be jobs which have revenue generation as part of their role. There’s no money to pay anyone else without those roles. The public sector does not have revenue generation (well except for the Police đ so that is one reason the salaries are traditionally less.
The Independent also has calculated percentage increases for CEO salaries, and the highest increases are the Justice CEO up 91% and the Te Puni Kokiri CEO up 80%.
