Madness

The Police have had to pay $8,750 to Carol Whatuira, a prison guard, because they notified the prison she had been charged with fraud!!!

And no she wasn’t innocent of the fraud. She pleaded guilty to the charges (which were lying to Police over a fraudulent insurance claim by her sister).

Her employment contract even specifies she must inform the prison if charged with fraud.

Personally I’m concerned that not only does she get rewarded for lying to the Police, but that Corrections still employs her as a prison guard. How can we take Corrections as being serious in stopping corruption when they allow someone who is party to a fraud, and thinks so little of the justice system that she lies to the Police, continue as a prison guard.

Yes she got diversion, and that would be fine in most other jobs to carry on. But one expects a much higher standard for prison guards.
