A stupid strategy

Labour’s re-election strategy seems to be based on trying to convince the media that National’s leadership team in unstable and can’t work together.

I hope they continue with such a stupid strategy.

Over the past six months, all I’ve heard from other National MPs is how much Key and English agree on key policy areas. They are both genuinely relatively centrist so this is not some artificial compromising of views – their instinctive positions are close to each other. They probably agree on more stuff than any previous Leader/Deputy.

So a strategy based on Key and English not being able to work with each other and eventually falling out, is one of the more stupid ones.

Incidentally part of the role of the shadow Finance Minister is to be a “Mr No” to his colleagues, He or she does have to make sure the policy programme in its entirety is fundable and has credibility. This will always mean they will be somewhat more restrained with their language. This is not a bad thing.
