Rail Travel

A couple of dozen friends and I were looking at going up to Auckland in September, and thought it could be fun, and economical, to book a train carriage as one of the group heard Tranzscenic offered good group discounts. Now, the Transcenic website says this:

Group Benefits:
Amazing travel deals when you book your group of 20 or more with an Account Manager.

So said friend phones the contact person listed on the site. The Account Manager cheerfully announced that the price for 20 people would be $79 each. Friend didn’t think it was so amazing, so checked on their website.

The website quoted the rail fare from Auckland to Wellington at $85.

That’s right, according to Tranzscenic a 6% discount is an “amazing travel deal.”

With deals like these, it’s no wonder rail travel is dying.
