Exclusive Brethren suggested Kiwi Saver!

Heh this is funny. From an NZPA story today:

And in the latest twist to the Kiwisaver story today, the seven members of the Exclusive Brethren who ran a campaign against National’s opponents in 2005 issued a statement, saying they welcomed the Kiwisaver scheme.

The men took credit for the changes announced in Thursday’s budget saying they had suggested them to Dr Cullen.

“This policy development has taken a while. However, Dr Cullen appears to be implementing our suggestions forwarded to him and other members of parliament as early as 2004 to combine tax cuts and employer contributions.”

The group said it was “ironic” that the Government which had been so critical of it had adopted their ideas.

Dr Cullen’s spokesman said the claim was “laughable”.

Perhaps it was decided upon during one of the half dozen or so meetings held between Labour and the Exclusive Brethren! 🙂
