Green scare-mongering
Green co-leader Russel Norman breathlessly blogs that the Amundsen Sea Embayment in Antarctica is melting quicker than previously realised and “If it goes, that’s six metres of sea level rise apparently”
This is blatant scare-mongering against the accepted scientific consensus. The Greens are not the party of science, but of fear if they promote crap like this. You note there is no indication as to whether this mythical six metres of sea level rise would happen next year, or over 1,000 years.
The UN IPCC latest report paints six scenarios for sea level rise by 2099. The range for the most optimistic scenario is 18 to 38 cm. The range for the most pessimistic is 26 to 59 cm.
This is the accepted scientific consensus – a worst case scenario of 59 cm over 100 years. Not hysterical stuff about six metre rises.
