Eye to Eye on Corrections
Despite the Government refusing to participate (which speaks volumes in itself), there was a great discussion on Eye to Eye re Corrections. Ron Mark, Hone Harewira, Matt Robson and teh Head of the Corrections Union.
Hone made a great point about how there was a capable Maori manager of Auckland Remand Prison, and how “Robson’s mob” booted him out by cancelling the private management contract, and “everything has gone straight back down the toilet again”.
Ron Mark weighed in how the ACRP, when privately run, had brilliant results, and we have lost great prison managers to Australia.
There is so much corruption in the public prison service, yet they shut down the non corrupt privately managed prison by passing a special law to stop the contract being renewed.
