Colin James on the carbon plan
Colin James has (as expected) a thoughtful piece on the Government’s carbon plans.
First he notes that poorer families benefit most from having cheap (but fuel-inefficent) cars. Will Labour price such cars beyond the reach of low income families? Will carbon neutrality be worth it?
Secondly one needs to do more than plant trees. Will Labour amend the RMA to fast track renewable electricity generation?
Overall James say that the key question is whether Clark will risk the unpopularity of increased costs and regulations, for the ability to say they are on track for carbon neutrality.
