Borders Wellington
I am enjoying having Borders in Wellington. The book collection is nowhere near as large as Auckland, but it is significantly more than Dymocks and Whitcoulls.
In my first foray I picked up four books. One book was on Hitler, and is the translation of secret briefings to Stalin from two of Hitler’s close military aides, whom were captured at the end of the war. It provides one of the most detailed accounts of Hitler we have.
Also picked up a nice biography of Cicero. Cicero was pretty much the only man to lead the Roman Republic who wasn’t from a noble family or was a great general. He got there on the strength of his political, legal and oratory skills alone. Oh plus no-one was too keen on his opponents in the year he stood.
Also got the Constant Princess, a fictional account of Katherine of Aragorn – the first wife of Henry VIII, and previously wife of his older brother.
And another fictional book called Empire of Dragons – about some Romans who end up in the Chinese Empire around 300 AD.
I can see my monthly book spend only going up thanks to Borders. Oh yes plus of course I have pre-ordered my copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
