Bainimarama sacks Great Council of Chiefs

This is interesting. The Dictator has sacked the entire Great Council of Chiefs and has cut off its funding. That is because they wouldn’t be poodles and appoint his nominee as Vice-President.

Now I’m no great fan of the GCC being a undemocratic itself, but hey so was the House of Lords and they often did some useful stuff.

I can’t see anyway Bainimarama will ever hand over power, as he is dismantling the institutions of state – the Parliament, the independent judiciary and now the GCC.
