SLAs for Government
Rodney Hide has suggested all ministries and departments should have service level agreements, commenting on the CIS report which found no change or a deterioration in most indicators despite $20 billion of extra spending.
I like how Rodney tries to get across how huge this amount of money is. He says that is $1 million is a stack of $100 notes 1 metre high, then $20 billion is the same stack but reaching up 20 kilometres. Almost an unimaginable amount of money.
I like the idea of SLAs. To a degree we have them through Ministerial purchase orders and statements of intent, but having ones more focused on the public and on outputs and outcomes instead of inputs would be good.
