Working around kiwiblog technical issues
As people will have noticed, there are a few technical issues with Kiwiblog at the moment. Some of them can be worked around.
1) Front Page not refreshing
The front page is meant to rebuild itself to reflect every new post (and comment). However sometimes new posts are not appearing for some hours as the system gets so busy. Now the posts are actually on the blog, just not appearing on the front page. So if you are desperate to see the latest material, you can look for it by clicking on the permalink of the latest post showing on the front page. Then when that post comes up, look on the right hand side where it shows the previous and next posts. If it shows a next post then you can click on it to access it.
2) Comments Spam
I’ve been waiting several weeks for the hosting provider to install the anti-spam “are you human” test. This will stop 99% of the spam getting through. I’m currently spending well over an hour a day deleting spam. Until this is fixed though the script which shows the ten most recent commented threads is not as useful as possible.
3) Permalinks not working
Due to server performance issues, sometimes a new post doesn’t complete correctly. It appears on the front page, but the permalink page with the comments on it wasn’t established. I need to manually go in and rebuild the page and that depends on me being at my laptop. So if the permalink page isn’t there, just check back in a couple of hours and it should be.
