SST claims Police to charge Field

A fascinating story in the Sunday Star-Times which says corruption charges are likely to be laid against Taito Phillip Field in the next few days.

Now what is their source for this highly specific information? Is it the Police? No. It is “political sources in the capital”.

Now what political sources could this be? Could it be National? No doesn’t make sense – they would not have any way of knowing.

Let’s think about this. Can we think of anyone who has the following characteristics:

* Is likely to be able to get reports on the investigation
* Has leaked to the media before about highly sensitive Police issues
* Has a history of leaking to the Sunday Star-Times
* Stands to benefit politically from having Field charged
* Also has a history of leaking information to pressure the Police decision making

Gee whiz. I’m stuck. I just can’t guess who it could possibly be that is this “political source in the capital”.

Hey here’s a thought. Don’t all the press gallery journalists get together on Monday to ask the PM some questions. Perhaps they could ask her if she has any idea who this political source is. I mean she’s a smart person and might be able to guess. Maybe she could speculate on why this political source is leaking to the SST, potentially interfering with the Police investigation?
