Super Lifeguard
I am sympatethic to surf lifeguarder Duncan Clarke, who is in the SST complaining that his pay has been cut from $23 an hour to $18 an hour.
However I wonder about his claim:
In 21 years as a guard, Clarke has saved hundreds of lives: “Once I did 24 in six minutes… honestly I have (saved) 300-400 people.”
Being able to swim to someone, and get them to safety every 15 seconds would be an impressive feat indeed. I suspect it would involve some sort of swimming speed record.
Not that this potential exagerration should take away from the fact he has saved hundreds of lives, and appears to have been pretty hard done by. The employer seems to have introduced pay scales which don’t take into account experience which is not a very sensible way of keeping your best staff.
