Digital Copyright

The Government has released its digital copyright bill.

There is some very good stuff in there such as legalising format shifting. At present it is illegal to copy a song from a CD your have purchased to your ipod.

However other parts of the bill don’t look so flash, especially the anti-circumvention provisions. InternetNZ is in the process of getting advice on the bill, and more detailed responses will follow.

Working to improve this legislation is likely to be one of the major priorities for InternetNZ next year.
