Is this news?
I felt very sorry for Amanda Scott, who has just had her past made front-page on the SST. When she was 22 she was the driver for a bank robbery and was sentenced to three years jail in 1991. So she has probably been out of jail for 13 years or so and is now a popular and competent teahcer a a decile one school. Good on her.
So what is the story here? Why make sure every single student, friend and colleague of hers knows about her past. I’m not saying the info should not be a matter of public record – I support that strongly. But what is the news interest in making it a front page story? There are presumably hundreds or thousands of people who committed a crime over a decade ago, and have not reoffended since and hold a responsible job.
