Barbaric rape laws

In NZ, the debate is on whether a complainant’s sexual history can ever be brought up at trial.

That is lightyears away from Pakistan, where Parliament has just voted to make rape a crime covered by the civil penal code, not Islamic law.

You see up until now a rape victim in Pakistan was “liable to prosecution for adultery if she could not produce four male witnesses to the assault”. Barbaric – that is almost like legalised rape. Islamist lawmakers oppossed the change saying it would encourage free sex and that teh existing law was in line with teachings,

The age of consent is also increasing from “puberty” to 16.

You can still get five years in prison though for consensual sex before marriage. And I bet you that only ever happens to women, not men.
