A cunning fraudster
The HoS has the story of Wayne Patterson who managed toi create 120 false identities to claim $3.5 million of benefits in 2.5 years. Incredible. He was getting $54,000 a fortnight.
Most criminals are pretty stupid, and hence get caught easily. Patterson was alaborate with his plans, with disguises, an apparently cheap house as a front, PO Boxes from Kaitaia to Invercargill etc. What a shame all that intelligence and ability to be used on criminal activity.
After hours of searching at his place, police found around $400,000 of gold bars and a million in cash.
The facte he had multiple passports and drivers licenses should serve as a wakeup call for the respective agencies. I wonder how many times he was enrolled on the electoral roll and whether he voted multiple times also?
