The right to silence
Good God. Top Criminal Defence QC Kevin Ryan has called for an end to the right to silence, and also for juries to know the criminal history of defendents.
He says the right to silence is from an outdated era when most of the public were uneducated and illiterate, and points out the law allows no right of silence for SFO investigations, yet does for murder and rape which are more serious offences than fraud.
He refers to the Kahui Twins case, saying “In my view, we are assisting evil by just sitting there and not answering questions.”
