A lot of angry people
I have been surprised by how angry people are about ramming the validating legislation through Parliament under urgency. Even though *some* of the legislation is arguably desirable, by ramming it through in this way, the public are naturally suspicious about what is it that Labour and allies are trying to cover up?
This explains the more than 5,000 people who have signed an online petition to the Governor-General in the last day and a bit. And every few seconds a couple of dozen more sign. One can spend quite a bit of time just hitting refresh and seeing the signatures roll in. It is now the second most active (most number of signatures per rminute) in the world.
This is well outside the beltway. People are signing from everywhere in NZ. It’s a pity Blair didn’t set up an optional column for comments – there would be some fiery ones I am sure.
As it so happens, I’m not signing it myself. I totally support the intentions, and that it is the only way people feel they can protest what Labour, NZ First and United Future have done. However it has a technical error in it, referring to the legislation validating Electoral Act breaches when in fact is illegal spending breaches being legalised.
UPDATE: In the couple of minutes it took me to do this post, the number of signatures increased by over 200.
UPDATE2: Has gone from 5,000 to 7,000 this morning. Also of great amusement are Google Ads which have been displaying Labour Party Ads on the petition site, which means Labour are paying for the costs of the petition π David Slack has a screen shot.
