Myths about the Exclusive Brethren
I’m no fan of the Exclusive Brethren, and believe their involvement in the 2005 election probably damaged National more than it helped it. However the line peddled by Labour that they spent $1.2 million on pamphlets and Brash knew about this is not correct.
Zen Tiger provides a handy rebuttal of three myths about the EB’s involvement.
My biggest criticism of them is that they did not call a press conference before the first pamphlet went out, announced what they were doing and why. It is the hiding the identity aspect which goes down so badly – as with the distribution of the NBR article on Hubbard last local elections. Quite legitimate to distribute a newspaper article, but one should be open you are doing it.
