Steyn notices NZ
Mark Steyn has told an Australian audience about his appreciation for the proposed burka policy put forward by Police Association president Greg O’Connor.
O’Connor had called for the all-enveloping burka garment to be banned from the roads.
How-ever this isn’t what Steyn most appreciated. It was O’Connor’s response to to the inevitable point that burka-shrouded drivers are part of an important cultural tradition.
O’Connor said “that if your cultural tradition is that you wear a burka then maybe your cultural tradition shouldn’t extend to driving an automobile”.
Incidentally talking of Steyn, most NZers who do not read news online will have no idea who he is. NBR’s David Cohen point out he is quoted in the NZ Herald only six times, while Robert Fisk is quoted over 150 times.
Finally I have to finish up with a Steyn quote on the United Nations:
It is a good basic axiom that if you take a quart of ice cream and mix it with a quart of dog faeces the result will taste more like the latter than the former.
