Legal Challenge re Election Spending
The NZ Herald has an article this morning quoting Winston Peters saying (correctly) the Auditor-General’s decisions could be challenged in court, and that any party could seek a declaratory judgment from the High Court.
I would have thought this was the perfect time to mention there is in fact a lawsuit before the courts, on this exact issue. It is seeking a ruling from the High Court as to whether Helen Clark’s authorisation of the pledge cards from taxpayer funds was legal.
I am mystified why the media continue to ignore the lawsuit. The Solicitor-General and Auditor-General have apparently come out and effectively agreed with the plaintiff, so the lawsuit has to be considered as having a very good chance of success.
Perhaps at Helen’s next press conference, someone could ask Helen why she has not yet filed a defence with the court?
