US Visit for BFM

The Herald reports on the planned US visit for our Beloved Foreign Minister. Winston, not Phil, that is.

I am bemused by the suggestion that having him meet the US Secretary of State would be a coup. It is absolutely normal and expected for one Foreign Minister to meet another. Meeting the President or the VP would be a coup.

It does remind me of when Phil Goff came back from a US visit and claimed to have met the US National Security Council. He got taunted about this for ages because in fact he just met some NSC staffers. If he had met the actual NSC that would be the President, VP, Sec State, Sec Defence, NSA, JSC Chair, CIA Director etc.
