It’s amusing to see Clark try to talk up Winston’s US visit as a success.

As I said, the key thing was to make a good impression for future meetings. And after the McCain meeting, the State Department would have quickly done a briefing note for Condi along the lines of:

“Volatile and unstable. Do not agree to a joint press conference with him, as he may cut you off. Also do not mention the media at all to him. Also please remember that you can’t discuss trade or defence issues with him”
