And a Socialist government encourages maximum welfare dependency and scares the shit out of citizerns to encourage them to abrogate their responsibility for their own decisions.The biggest challenge for a non Socialist government is to get the middle class welfare dependents to go cold turkey from the drug that is welfare assistance.Unfortuneatley its like asking turkeys to vote for a early Xmas.Prosperous societies arent welfare dependent societies

There could be any number of structures to this business deal – for example:

1. It could be a silent partner arrangement, where the parents are the silent partner and the girls are the active partners. Parent’s provide intial start up capital of table and bottle and some working capital to purchase raw materials, in return for say 25% of the profits. Girls provide operational, sales, marketing and strategic skills in return for 75% of the profits.

2. Or, the girls could have formed their own company, and raised debt finance from their parents secured against the probability of the future returns, given the proven history of the lemonade sales business. Interest on capital becomes an expense and the girls keep all the net profits.

3. The parents could actually be active partners. Since we don’t see the lemons pictured with the girls, the parents could be handling the capital investment and the manufacturing and wholesale operations, while the girls handle retail sales and marketing. Under this arrangement the parents may keep say 75% of the profits owing to their provision of capital + operational involvement, while the girls keep 25% of the profits owing to their involvement in retail sales and marketing.

There are endless possibilities in this scenario…..the mind boggles at the vast array of options open to budding young entrepreneurs in the free land of Aotearoa where the state still let’s you keep SOME of the profits from your thrift and enterprise….

Of course, the girls alternative would be to forget about enterprise while they are young and instead play with their IPOD that ‘Working For Families’ afforded them, and then que up at WINZ when they qualify for benefits and harness for free the profits others have generated….a much less inspiring picture I would have thought.

Bring the political message in terms of adults vs children I think is excellent. When you look at it the Labour Party treats people like children – asking for handouts, doing as you are told, whereas the National Party treats people like adults – incentives to work harder, make your own decisionas within a fair framework. I think it is superb and potent.

Ah yes, the truth is revealed – National sees itself as the “parents” of the nation to Labour’s “big brother”.

So thats why they can excuse their own paternalisitic instincts and intrusions into the lives of ordinary kiwis while simultaneously condemning the same in the Government.

Silly me for thinking they were a bunch of right hypocrites devoid of much vision but the bottom dollar in their taxpayer funded suits.

The black economy is indeed worthy of a mention. Lets talk about how graduated and high tax rates encourage avoidance and conversley how flat tax rates encourage compliance. How much will they keep – in a high tax economy probably all as they will avoide tax as best they can. So perhaps National has got it wrong as llew points out.

I used to sell lemonade and other random things on the side of the road as a child, so it definately does happen! Can’t say I made much money though.

I also quite like the postcard and recieved it in my letterbox

I used to sell lemonade.

Undercut the tuck shop at high school for a couple of years selling 1.5l coke etc. for $2 (when it was frequently on special for as little as 89 cents).

If we hypothesise that these two earn $10K in a business and are part of a WFF family earning $40K a year. The abatement rate on that extra $10K gives an effective tax rate of 80%. Now tell me that under Labour they are just as likely to declare the income as they are under National. Convoluted, targeted and progressive taxation discourages compliance, its not rocket science
