Aust Labor on Broadband
Australian Labor have pledged $2.75 billion of spending to partly-fund a national broadband infrastructure.
They talk of speeds up to 6 Mb/s so looks like referring to DSL or DSL2+ over copper. Copper is going to remain the dominant technology for the next decade or so, but for future-proofing countries need to talk about a national fibre network which delivers at 100 Mb/sec.
This is happening in both Netherlands and Sweden. The Dutch PM in fact was in Australia a couple of months ago talking about what they are doing.
