I’ll be part of Winston’s 3% lift. Especially after listening to what he said about the first unelected female PM this morning.

I’d wear being kicked out by Shipley as a badge of honour.

I would have stayed with National but they need a good firm kick up the arse. I’m not tribal. I’m a New Zealander who knows a rimu from a rata.

All National needed to do was harden up in some areas and listen to people like me. Family man, pays all the tax, never been in any trouble with any of the authorities.

I give them an A for stewardship of the economy

I give them a D for domestic affairs.

7. Just in case you missed it…

One curious coda to the RMA debate that concluded last week was that the Opposition parties plus ACT and United Future all voted again during the third reading debate for amendments that would have abolished Rural Urban Growth Boundaries and allowed the financing of infrastructure bonds paid for with targeted rates.

The amendments were defeated by National and the Maori Party.

The irony of a Government that has railed against restrictions on land development by councils voting against removing those restrictions should be noted. And also that the proposal for infrastructure bonds was backed by the right-leaning New Zealand Initiative and voted for by the Greens and Labour. Strange times indeed.

Why is the National –led Government just handing the 23 September election to a Labour – led Government … simply because the former is failing to provide political leadership on the housing issue ? …

I live in aussie and hate this level of rorting – it’s corruption right throughout councils continent wide, albeit some are probably doing the right thing like the ATC —- by charging developers for zoning changes. It’s 11 billion dollars…..and that’s before roading …..and then mining….

I’d rather see National go in to opposition than form a coalition with NZ First. NZ First has a reputation for unstable government, economy-wrecking big government populism, and special favours for their donors. They’re led by a flakey old man who stands for nothing other than his own ego and who represents the worst of establishment politics. I don’t want my party to be associated with this. Let Peters, Little, and Turei form a coalition of losers and if we survive three years of chaos, then we can give them the boot.

  Let’s recognise at least that the stark prospect (inevitability?) of Peters holding the balance of power is what our country deserves for being hoodwinked into accepting and institutionalising MMP as NZ’s electoral system of voting.
  
  When that kind of voting system is captured by someone as clever / devious as Peters, MMP breeds and entrenches weak governance beholden to multiple “special interest” groups, rather than to clear, social and economic basic principles – and to sound management of the country as a whole.
  
  The opportunist Peters himself is not the cause of the political dilemma facing New Zealand. But he is clever enough to position himself, strategically and near-permanently, as MMP’s Beneficiary-in-Chief.

    Peters only gets to hold the balance of power under MMP because the other parties are still trying to play as pre-MMP style government and opposition. His power would be much diminished if parties were to work together on issues where they could agree and oppose on issues where they didn’t, rather than treating every vote as a confidence vote.

  Peters has been in parliament since 1978. He’s had almost 40 years to solve these problems, which includes significant periods in government as part of the establishment. 40 YEARS! If you think that he is going to stop burglaries, stop people taking meth, or force judges to raise sentences then you’re delusional. He might change the RMA to remove Maori influence, but you never know since he spent the 90s pandering to Maori interests because his base was the Maori seats. Peters only has one principle, and that is Peters First. Everything else is up for negotiation, especially if you’re a NZ First donor… If he needs Maori votes, then he’ll be a Maori nationalist. If he doesn’t need them then he’ll be an anti-Maori anti-immigrant populist.

        Winnie is pretty useless at holding people accountable, but he’s pretty good at reminding them that if they sharpened up their act they could govern without him.
        
        Giving the Nats three years of WP would be a punishment for going off script.
        
        If they get back on script in 3 years then they get a WP-less government in 2020. If they let it slide even further then they go and we get Labour/Green for 3 years and Nat get to have a wee think for a bit.

I would like any of you to name one MP who would put doing what what is right ahead of their career?

I think nearly everyone on this blog knows that Peter Ellis is not guilty of the crimes he spent years in jail for. While one MP stick their neck for justice?

To say that Winston is in politics for him self and John Key and your other favorite MPs are their for public service and not for personal rewards or their ego is just nonsense.

I am sure Winston believes in binding referendum on the Maori seats. However, if he did not believe there were votes in it he would not have that high on his agenda.

Most people vote for want is in their or their families interest so people would vote to get rid of the Maori seats. How many people would change their vote to bring justice for Peter Ellis? No many I think as it will not help them.

      I am definitely not unhappy as it won’t effect me but both of married daughters will be as they both have businesses and will be very aware of what the coalition from hell could do.

    I’d forgotten about Peters’ Pike River delusion.
    
    How about the resort and golf course that he KNEW was being sold to foreigners. It wasn’t.
    
    Or the US intelligence station located just north of Auckland. Peters was the only person who knew about this but, trust him, he was going to tell us where it was after the 2014 election. He hasn’t.
    
    Or the Cook Strait ferry that Peters spent months telling us had run aground. It didn’t.
    
    I suspect Peters purposely tries to tell the most delusional outrageous lies, just to see who is dumb enough to keep believing him. He probably has a chuckle down at the Green Parrot… “you can fool some of the people all of the time, and some equals about 10 percent”.

Good grief! Unfortunately some people are deluding themselves if they think a protest vote in support if NZF will help (and shore up National etc).

A vote for NZ First is effectively a vote for Labour. Winston’s own supporters say so!

In 2014: “67% of those who voted for New Zealand First at the 2011 general election would prefer Labour to lead a coalition government if one is needed after September 20’s general election.”

  I am white,my wife and kids are of maori descent,they are mine,they are N ew Zealanders.
  How could they do what we found disgusting in South Africa and fought to end.
  English is out of his depth and now I have to vote for anyone who will stand for 1 man regardless of race to apply for and get jobs and positions on merit.
  Not on race.

People, people, people. The numbers are what they are. Labour aren’t going to get within a bull’s roar of enough support to form a Government with or without the Greens, NZF, and Uncle Tom Cobbly.

And Peters has said more times than I could count that he won’t put the Greens into Government. He knows as well as everyone else that doing so would be the death of him and his Party.

He doesn’t actually have any options, and neither do we. September is still a way off, but the outcome is pre-ordained.

We all need to get used to that.

If I may let me refer you to the general debate thread, where we have been exposing the fabrication of reality by the PC history establishment which has denied the old true story that Moriori were the first NZers and suppressed all the texts that explain this old truth in favour of PC myths. You have strongly stated your belief that the PC myth is wrong and that Moriori clearly were the first. Maybe you can name one of the lost books that the PC establishment has purged from libraries and the internet? Where did you get your information on Moriori? If you could name your source then those of us trying to set up a ‘truth library’ would be very grateful…

Boris you stated repeatedly that the new story about Moriori was a lie, and that they were the first NZers who were conquered and enslaved by Maori. What was the source for your view? It is vital that we discover this source before it is destroyed by the PC police. How did you learn the truth about the Moriori?

  Further; having re-read your posts, I am still a little uncertain as to whether you’re having a snide dig, or genuinely wanting some direction as to the source of the history. If it is the former, then I believe your downtickers have got it right.
  
  But giving you the benefit of the doubt that it may be the latter, and that they and I may have mistaken your intent, I can tell you that I’m not aware of any texts being purged.
  
  The story of Moriori was the established history as told and retold by Maori themselves, without question, judgement, or prejudice, for most of this country’s existence up until about 30 years ago.
  
  Polynesian Maori arrived in these islands whenever they did, found other people already here, and proceeded to do unto them what invaders have done through all of human history.
  
  Moriori were in fact only one part of the established peoples living here at the time of the Polynesian arrival. They were the longest to survive however, being driven eventually to the Chathams, to where they were finally pursued by Maori, meeting their ultimate demise there at the hands of their pursuers.
  
  We were taught this at school. It was a simple matter of fact, not questioned or denied, not requiring justification, it was simply the way things had been. Maori were neither proud not ashamed of it. Theirs was a world of conflict, and to the victors belonged the spoils. Interestingly most if not all Maori also accepted their own defeat and subsumation by the British in the same light, prior to the creation of the modern bitterness and grievance industry. Land claims were a separate issue.
  
  Moriori did live in the North Island as well as the South, along with the other peoples that made up the First Nations. Kai Tahu and Makaawhio are among those who trace their lineage to those peoples, and they and others were pretty much forcibly included in the new tribe named Ngai Tahu that was created as part of the Waitangi Tribunal process.
  
  Modern Maori do of course incorporate elements of the language, culture, and DNA of those First Nations peoples, including Moriori, as one would naturally expect following the process of invasion, conquest, enslavement, and genocide.
