Auckland University European Club has been disbanded before it even started under threats of violence, leaks of personal info, attack from the liberal student president and of course Devoy.

Nothing at all to show that this club was anything other than something to promote European culture. Apparently it is illegal now to use Celtic symbols. Did someone tell the Irish?

    No, there were several different icons that were used together, from what I read.

    If a Muslim club started with a logo of swords, a motto of “taking over the world” and pictures of a caliphate, I’m pretty sure lots of people here would have a lot to say about it.

        No, that is not what I said. Don’t pick just one facet of the list and then go suggesting that is what the fuss is about. The list:
        
        (a) Celtic crosses are well known white nationalist symbols. Very well known.
        (b) The slogan is (apparently) similar to one used by the Nazis.
        (c) The group is called a “European” (i.e. any white, not black) group, not a Celtic/Scottish/Irish/Welsh one
        (d) They (supposedly) included other German or Nazi iconic images on their Facebook page.
        
        Now, some of this is subjective but it is the sum of the parts, not any individual item that you chose to take out of the list.
        
        If it was just one of that list, then I would have the same opinion as you. But it’s not.
        
        You would have thought the group would have thought about this beforehand.

        The group uses a Celtic cross and is clearly not a Celtic only group. They are using a group definition that suggests white nationalism, by formally identifying themselves as not a Celtic group – a non-Celtic white group using a well known white nationalist symbol.

        White males are the only people who don’t get a hand up with employment.
        
        I spent two years conscripted into the Army for one reason only: I am a white male.
        
        There are heaps of scholarships out there for Maori, women etc…. none for white males.
        
        And I don’t regret is. You know why? Because special handouts are more destructive to the people who get them.
        
        Every time there is a special hand out for a woman (eg. scholarships, having reduced fitness requirements for the polic/army,…) it sends a message that women are pathetic and cannot cope on their own merits – instead they need special handouts. They can’t cope in the real world – they need a specail bubble to live in.
        
        Same with special handouts for Maori etc.

        Just an aside, Maori are well represented in the NZ Armed forces – on a par with the general population ratio. They make up about 22 % of the Army

  Years ago someone concerned with rising prices formed a group call Campaign Against Rising Prices (CARP). This must have been seen as a challenge by the unions and other lefties who stacked their AGM and took control of it – used it for their purposes and let it die. Nowadays intimidation and violence would be added to the mix. Similarly when someone tried to set up an alternative teachers union.
  By the way during one capping week students invented ‘Campaign Rising All Prices’ and put posters up prominently displaying the initials.

An American has bought a station in the South. We see on the box some walking activist greenie saying that they are unhappy because there has been no walking access over the lakeside property and that they are not amused.
Why did the repeater not say that part of the agreement with the Overseas Investment Commission was that access will be allowed by the new owner.

The era that Tony always encourages us to focus on is the pure fiat money age post 1971 when Banks have been able to create money ex-nihilo and lend it ad infinitum constrained pretty much only by how much money borrowers have been willing to borrow and a minuscule reserve ratio.

The amount that people have been able to borrow has increased from the 1970’s mainly due to 4 factors, ranked by importance (approx. % mine)
1) This elastic money supply that means banks aren’t constrained by reserves (66%)
2) each household now having 2 breadwinners to “pay off the mortgage” (20%)
3) the long term decline (with bumps) of interest rates over time, (9%)
4) & the lowering of lending standards, (5%)

The stock of houses did not suddenly go up in line with the vastly increased pot of money chasing them, and thus the laws of economics dictated that prices rose….But don’t expect Tony to tell you this as the constant debt spiral of society is what keeps him in a job. He needs an exponentially growing number of suckers willing to spend 30 years as a mortgage slave (which is why we have ever increasing mass migration).

He will never reflect on why under a non-elastic monetary system pre 1971 your grandparents with one person working was able to pay off their house in 7 short years.

  “In addition the recent Demographia International Housing Affordability Survey: 2017 named New Zealand’s largest city of Auckland (population of 1.5 million) as the world’s fourth least affordable major housing market behind Hong Kong, Sydney and Vancouver. A staggering 32% of Auckland residents mentioned either Housing affordability/ Increasing house prices (20%) or Housing shortage/ Homelessness (12%) as the biggest problems facing New Zealand – clearly higher than any other city or region of New Zealand.
  
  “Incredibly, New Zealand PM Bill English should know all about the Demographia Survey as now PM English is quoted in the opening notes to the paper saying: ‘It costs too long much and takes too long to build a house in New Zealand. Land has been made artificially scarce by regulation that locks up land for development. This regulation has made land supply unresponsive to demand’.
  
  “The ‘Housing Crisis’ resonates across all age groups: 18-24 (26%); 25-34 (25%); 35-49 (29%) and 50+ (26%) and both genders: Women (27%) cf. men (25%). Perhaps most importantly for a Government seeking re-election, the analysis shows over a quarter of National supporters (26%) and over a third of Labour supporters (35%) consider the ‘Housing Crisis’ New Zealand’s biggest problem while interestingly this opinion is shared by only 15% of New Zealand First supporters and just 11% of Greens supporters.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions: “I have recused myself in the matters that deal with the Trump campaign”.

This story will build.

I predict Sessions will end up going. Sessions may argue that he just “failed to disclose” his contacts. But we need to be honest – he was asked directly, at least twice, and lied outright both times, at least once under oath.

More often than not in politics it’s the cover-up that does you in, not the initial transgression.

I predict too that a Special Prosecutor will be appointed to investigate the links between the Trump campaign and the Russians. Hard to say where that rabbit hole will go, but there’s a lot of smoke so there must be a risk someone will find a fire.

      More like the man who hit pay-dirt a number of times, especially here:
      
      Mr Steele has been regularly supplying information to the FBI. In June last year, for instance, he produced a memo which went to the bureau stating that Mr Trump’s campaign team had agreed to a Russian request to dilute attention on Moscow’s intervention in Ukraine.
      
      Four days later Mr Trump stated that he would recognise Moscow’s annexation of Crimea: officials involved in his campaign having already asked the Republican party’s election platform to remove a pledge for military assistance to the Ukrainian government against separatist rebels in the east of the country.
      
      Mr Steele claimed the Trump campaign was taking this path because it was aware that the Russians were hacking Democratic Party emails. The same day that Mr Trump spoke about Crimea, he called on the Kremlin to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails.
      
      No wonder Trump wants him discredited.

  No he didn’t “lie under oath”. He was directly asked about his contacts with the Russians as part of Trumps campaign – NOT about his contacts with the Russians with no context. That was the whole point of the exercise, Trump’s campaign alleged contacts.
  
  Sessions, at the time, was not a member of the Trump campaign, he was a senator and on several Senate committees that regularly met foreign ambassadors and the like. It’s not like anyone couldn’t jut easily check that Sessions had met and talked to Russians as a Senator – it’s part of the public record.
  
  Just another part of the hit job aided and abetted by a lying media.

    No. Sessions was clearly a part of Trump’s campaign, and indeed was a speaker at several of Trump’s rallies before the alleged meetings with Kisylak.
    
    Personally I’d say his first meeting with Kisylak is a non-event. It was a passing conversation in a public setting at an event where a lot of ambassadors had been invited.
    
    But the September meeting was in private in Session’s Senate office – and it happened after Sessions had thrown his lot in with the Trump campaign. You can spin the “as a Senator he met with lots of foreign ambassadors” all you like … but that exact argument is why the WaPo asked all the Senators on those committees about their contact with Kisylak and all responded to say they had had no private meetings with him.
    
    You are letting your Trump fandom get in the way of the facts.

    At his Jan. 10 Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing, Sessions was asked by Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) what he would do if he learned of any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of the 2016 campaign.
    
    “I’m not aware of any of those activities,” he responded. He added: “I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians.”
    
    He was clearly affiliated with Trump’s campaign – and note he himself says “I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign”. Then he says “I did not have communications with the Russians.”
    
    That is the cover-up that will sink him.

  Interesting to read why Muslim men and women pray separately. The men may get a hard on by looking at a woman’s arse; well that is how I interpret it.
  
  ‘Muslim men believe men and women must be separated during prayer because men are lustful and will think inappropriate thoughts about women. By praying separately, men are able to keep their thoughts pure and can focus on praying to Allah.
  Many Muslim women agree they should be kept separate from men during from prayer in order for them to feel more comfortable. Some women breastfeed their children during prayer periods and having no men around makes them feel more at ease. Muslim women are also comfortable being separated because it means they do not have to worry about men looking at their backside while they are prostrated on the ground during prayer’.

    Not really sure what your problem is with that. If you want to observe your prayer time properly, then you should look to ensure that you are free from distraction, and the presence of the opposite sex – particularly with their a*ses on obvious display – is something that might reasonable be regarded as distracting. The thinking behind women-only gyms and yoga classes is pretty similar

Jared Kushner, Mr. Trump’s son-in-law and now a senior adviser, also participated in the meeting at Trump Tower with Mr. Flynn and Sergey I. Kislyak, the Russian ambassador. But among Mr. Trump’s inner circle, it is Mr. Flynn who appears to have been the main interlocutor with the Russian envoy — the two were in contact during the campaign and the transition, Mr. Kislyak and current and former American officials have said.

  Politicians meet with Ambassadors all the time. That is why they live and work in capital cities all around the world.
  Even Democrat Senators meet with the Russian Ambassador although they send out Tweets saying they haven’t met him — do some research on Senator Claire McCaskill saying this. Unfortunately there are photos on the Net to prove her wrong. Will she be asked to resign ?
  BTW there was absolutely nothing wrong with her meeting the Russian ambassador as part of her job, just like Jeff Sessions did and Mike Flynn.

They felt it was fine to take stuff because they were running out of food etc. Sure, if you need to steal to survive that’s morally Ok so long as you only take what you need and only take stuff for survival. Then you should also leave some sort of IOU to indicate that you intend to pay people back.

If I had to steal food to feed my family I’d do it in a heartbeat. However you’d see me fishing first.

Stealing a motorbike is hardly survival.

Inmate does runner during funeral release

An inmate released from Auckland Central Remand Prison to attend a family funeral has done a runner.

Police believe Tuakana Matthews, 25, might be on the run with his teenage girlfriend who is also wanted.

Matthews was released from the Mt Eden prison to attend a funeral and was ordered to return to the facility by 5.30pm on Tuesday, February 21. He failed to return and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

My interpretation of this is that the guy was let out unsupervised.

“Tuakana should not be approached by the public and all sightings of him should be reported to police immediately by calling 111,” said the spokeswoman.

WTF? If he’s that dangerous that he “should not be approached by the public” then why on earth was he let out unsupervised?

Methinks the insane hysteria over Russia needs to stop. It probably will not. For reasons of domestic and imperial politics the American public is again being manipulated into a war frenzy by Washington and New York. It is stupid, without justification, and dangerous.

The silliness over Russia is, obviously, part of the Establishment’s drive to get rid of Trump. Yes, the man is erratic, contradictory, shoots before he aims, backs off much of what he has promised, and may be unqualified as President–but that is not why Washington and New York want to get rid of him. It is about money and power, as is everything in the United States. Wall Street, the Pentagon, the Neocons, and the Empire run America. Trump has threatened their rice bowls.

Consider:

He has threatened to cut the F-35, a huge blow to Lockheed-Martin and hundreds of subcontractors; to pull US troops out of South Korea, a blow to the Empire; to end the wars, a blow both to the Empire and the military industry getting rich from them; to pull troops out of Okinawa, crippling the Empire in the Pacific; to start a trade war with China with a forty-five percent tariff of Chinese goods, threatening American corporations with factories there; and to chase out illegal immigrants, an important source of cheap labor to businesses. He has called NATO “obsolete,” when leaving it would be the death knell of the Empire; and threatened to establish good relations with Russia, when the lack of a European enemy would leave NATO even more obviously unnecessary.

Thus New York and its branch operation in Washington resuscitate Russia as a bugbear to terrify the rubes,meaning most of the public. Money. Power. Empire.

I frequently see the assertion that Russia “hacked” voting machines to give the election to President Trump. The majority who are excited about this, I suspect the very great majority, have not the foggiest idea what they are talking about. Hacking to most people means something they saw in a movie, with some bright kid going clickety-click-click on a laptop and penetrating NORAD. It is a vague menace lacking specific content. To them I would say:

If you cannot program in assembly language, you do not know how computers work. If you do not know TCP/IP from DHCP, you do not know how the internet works. If you cannot tell a dictionary attack from stack overflow, you don’t have a housefly’s idea how hacking works. If you have not investigated the various kinds of voting machines to see what would be involved in changing their vote totals, you probably ought to take up stamp collecting.

This is all orchestrated. So is the constant Putin bashing. His sin of course is that he doesn’t knuckle under to Washington. It is also the sin of Iran, China, Cuba, and North Korea.

The con is often silly. From time to time we see screaming headlines headlines, RUSSIAN BOMBER FLIES OFF AMERICAN COAST! Or somebody’s coast. Recently it was A SPY SHIP! The “bomber” is usually a Tu-95 Bear (NATO designation), an ancient four-engine prop job, though a beautiful aircraft, converted for reconnaissance. The idea that Moscow would send one lumbering plane to bomb America is too stupid–well, no, nothing is too stupid.

Of course Lucia’s a programmer so she already knows it’s just idiotic but because she’s so emotively wrapped in a pre-determined position she insists the fantasy is true. Poor thing.

Other idiots who believe it, of course don’t have the same excuse, apart from being idiots.

According to official US economic data, the US Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has expanded for 22 quarters, raising real GDP 12.1% above its high prior to the 2008-09 economic contraction. Yet, US manufacturing output and US industrial production have not recovered to their pre-contraction high.

So what is driving the real GDP growth? In my opinion, the rise in real GDP is an illusion produced by the under-measurement of inflation.

As I have reported on many occasions, John Williams of shadowstats.com has concluded that changes in the way that the government approaches the measurement of inflation has, in effect, defined inflation away.

Formerly, if a price of an item in an inflation measure rose, the inflation rate would rise by the price times the weight of the item in the index. Today, if a price of an item in an inflation measure rises, that item is removed from the index, and a lower cost item substituted in its place.

A second way that government has contrived in order to undermeasure inflation is to declare price rises “quality improvements” and not count the higher price as inflation.

Using these methods, an 8% rate of inflation can, for example, be reduced to a 2% inflation rate.

The low inflation rate is what produces the appearance of real GDP growth…

…The main reason that the government revamped its measurement of inflation is to save money by denying Social Security recipients cost-of-living-adjustments. During the many years that retirees have had no interest income on their retirement savings due to the Federal Reserve’s low interest rate policy in support of the balance sheets of the “banks too big to fail,” retirees have also been denied cost-of-living adjustments to their Social Security pensions….

…To speak frankly, the picture of the economy that is presented to the public is a virtual reality contrived to take the place of the real reality. The economic recovery, the low inflation and unemployment rates are no more real than Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction, Assad’s use of chemical weapons, Iranian nukes, and Russian invasion of Ukraine. As in the movie, the Matrix in which Americans live is the product of government’s ability to control the explanations.

As John Williams says, the government’s “GDP reporting is not close to being credible.” The Federal Reserve’s Industrial Production Index represents 61% of GDP and remains below its peak prior to the 2008-09 economic contraction. Yet the government says real GDP is 12.1% higher.

Try finding any discussion of this inconsistency in the financial media.

There have always been biases in the media, but the 21st century has seen the rise of fake news in order to advance agendas. For example, the neoconservative agenda of overthrowing seven countries in the Middle East in five years was served by the fake news about Saddam Hussein, Gadaffi, Assad, and Iran. The military/security complex’s agenda of a New Cold War was served by the fake news of Russian invasion and threat to Europe. President Trump’s intention of restoring normal relations with Russia was defeated by fake news of Russian interference in the presidential election and Trump’s alleged connections to Russian intelligence.

Practically the entire US population belived the obvious, transparent lies about Iraq, Libya, Syria, and Iran and perhaps most still do.

The print and TV media and much of the Internet media create the virtual reality that supports the agendas of the ruling elites, depriving the people of comprehension of factual reality.

Democracy cannot function when lies crowd out truth in the service of hidden agendas. Neither can life on earth. As terrible as the two 20th century World Wars were in the expenditure of life and destruction of cities, the weapons were puny compared to the thermo-nuclear weapons of today.

According to reports, just one Russian Satan II nuclear missile has sufficient destructive force to obliterate France or the state of Texas.

Russia, surrounded by 28 hostile NATO countries egged on by insane neoconservatives and crazed US generals, relies on nuclear weapons to protect its homeland. In recent years, various Russian officials have said that Russia will never again fight a war on its own territory. This should tell us something, but it hasn’t.

If you have a brain, ask yourself what this orchestrated conflict with Russia is about. Putin has said that he wants no conflict, that Russia threatens no one. But the Western presstitutes declare that Russia is a threat, and the generals who Trump has appointed to the highest positions in his new
government say that “Russia is the principal threat to the US.” If you believe Putin, you are a Russian dupe or even a traitor. If you believe the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, you have signed up for Armageddon.
