A Texas judge has dismissed a defamation lawsuit filed last year by the father of “Clock Boy” Ahmed Mohamed against several conservatives.

Mohamed Mohamed, “Clock Boy’s” father, filed the suit in September against CSP, its executive vice president, The Blaze, Inc., its founder Glenn Beck, Fox News, and several conservative pundits, including Ben Ferguson and Ben Shapiro, all of whom criticised his son.

  Even better, the father has been socked around US$80K per lawsuit he filed for legal costs. That might provide him with a bit of a lesson about filing frivolous lawsuits for political purposes. So far it has cost him around $300K with more to come…plus his own costs.

A woman in Switzerland has been refused a passport because her “annoying” vegan campaigning has rubbed her neighbours up the wrong way.

Nancy Holten, 42, is a vegan and an animal rights activist who was born in the Netherlands, but has lived in Switzerland since she was eight years old. She’s fluent in Swiss German and her kids are Swiss citizens.

Holten has twice tried – and failed – to get a Swiss passport, because other residents in the community of Gipf-Oberfrick, in the canton of Aargau, don’t like her outspokenness on animal rights issues.

In Switzerland, locals often get a say in a person’s passport application – and Holten’s neighbours have given her a thumbs down, The Local reports.

Her opposition to local traditions, like hunting, piglet racing and cows wearing bells, and her complaints about the village church bells, have seen her branded “annoying” by locals.

In 2015, her first attempt at naturalisation was approved by authorities, but 144 out of 206 village residents rejected it.

Her second effort was rejected in November.

However, Holten has appealed to the provincial government, which could overturn the locals’ vote.

“Many people think that I am attacking their traditions. But that was not what it was about … What primarily motivated me about the cowbells was the animals’ welfare,” Holten told The Local.

Remember actions have consequences.

  This raises a very interesting point; the way Switzerland processes applications for residency and citizenship, which like a lot of the process of government in Switzerland, is devolved right down to the neighbourhood level.
  
  I find the advocates of “Swiss style democracy” being adopted here, quite convincing – do others know what I mean? Amy Brooke is one promoter.

    By the “Swiss style democracy” I assume you mean the constant referendums they have. eg. in 2016 they had 13 issues put before the voters as referendum issues: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss_referendums,_2016
    
    This surely gives a better style of democracy than what we have in NZ.
    
    With party based democracies like we have, you basically have to pick one job lot that the party offers. That seldom results in a good fit to what your desires are.
    
    For example, what if you like Nat’s fiscal policy, Labour’s law and order policy and Greens policy on clean rivers. You have to choose just one party and compromise on the other policies.
    
    With the Swiss system you get to have more choice: you can actually vote for the Nat fiscal policy, the Labour law and order policy and Greens clean rivers.

      There are several good features, including that one. One of the others is how much governance is “local”, even the processing of immigrant applications, by the neighbourhood in which they will live.
      
      And the elections are pretty much “local body” and then that’s it. Every higher tier of government is simply selections from the local, being seconded upwards. This means that everyone really pays attention to the local body elections, and high quality candidates known to everybody, are the norm. And when someone ends up at the national cabinet level and does something unforgiveable, it is his locals who vote him out.
      
      The national cabinet and the national government are pretty much synonymous, every member has a portfolio in which they are specialist, and everything else done by the myriads of “MP’s” under other systems, is handled by regional or local government.

      But it also doesn’t force you to make the hard choices that have to be made.
      
      We’d all like clean rivers and a prosperous economy, low crime, high educational standards, well-equipped emergency services and low tax rates (except on people who earn more than we do, and perhaps also on things that we don’t buy or own), personal freedom to travel wherever, whenever and at whatever speed we wish and low road death tolls, endless space, peace and quiet in the wilderness, on beaches and in museums and high earnings from tourism, etc.
      
      Nobody is done any favours by deluding themselves, and seeking to delude others, that all of these things are simultaneously possible and that no compromise is needed on any of them.
      
      As for the Swiss passport application system, no.
      
      The woman in question is rude and inconsiderate, and her behaviour is counterproductive to the causes she wishes to support.
      
      These are reasons for individuals to make the choice not to associate with her. They are not illegal, and they are not grounds for official, state-sanctioned discrimination and denial of rights.

        She’s applying to be given those rights, you don’t get them for free. Rights don’t come out of the ether, they’re provided and backed by a Government of the people and those people don’t like her.

    Over 30 years ago I was asked by an important Swiss client if I would find a private detective to do a report on his Swiss daughter’s fiance – a New Zealander she had met in London.
    He wanted to know all the details regarding the young man’s family, as by marrying a Swiss he would be eligible for Swiss Citizenship.
    It would reflect badly upon his family if it all went wrong.
    I was unable to assist him but am sure he persevered.

  Maybe she came out here to escape those mean animal-torturing Swiss.
  BTW, a few years ago another neighbour told me he admired me for my vegetarian stance.
  His mum was horrified after seeing his P.I. wife plunge a poor lobster into boiling water.

  I don’t know whether Trump paid prostitutes to piss on the bed or not, frankly, but it is crystal clear that America is in the shit (pardon the almost pun).
  
  If Trump allowed himself to be compromised in this obvious fashion, then he’s a complete fuckwit who is totally unfit for the job. But if it’s all invented, then it shows that opposition to their elected president goes right into the reaches of their security and law enforcement establishment and they have the organizational ability and the power to break this news within days of his inauguration.
  
  Either way, this is an abdolute crisis for America. We’ve never seen such behavior in politics. The world’s strongest military power has descended almost to the level of a tinpot African republic – and the next few years are going to be bloody dangerous.

    Apparently the file had been around for awhile.Several of the News organisations reached out to their contacts in the FBI etc, all of whom said they couldn’t verify it. So those organisation’s refused to publish it.
    But Buzzfeed, supported by CNN did anyway.

But the essence of its case—that Trump has been playing footsie with Vladimir Putin for years and knowingly accepted his secret help to win the White House—may well turn out to be true.
      
      The media, unaccustomed to seeing raw HUMINT reports, acted aghast at the salacious nature of some of the claims in the dossier […] there’s no doubt that Putin’s Federal Security Service, the all-seeing FSB, keeps close tabs on foreign VIP’s when they’re on their turf.         Someone did opposition research for a rival GOP candidate many months ago. A former MI6 person was hired to gather intel. And so on. This was leaked to media, they could not verify the info so did not publish pre election. McCain who saw the info handed it onto the FBI.

    It has been with dismay that, over my lifetime, I have become aware of more and more “institutions” appearing to have succumbed to the neo-Marxist long march. One would have thought some institutions would have been proof against this, with a nation’s own Intelligence and Counter-Espionage services surely being the ultimate bastion against it. But one could be wrong.
    
    Many christian denominations Clergy succumbed long ago, which was a warning sign. “Science” and its teaching, is another. Can there be a neo-Marxist mathematics? I am sure some progressive intellectuals somewhere are working on this.

    Sworn Donald Trump enemy John McCain has admitted that he passed the dossier of claims of a Russian blackmail plot against the president-elect.
    
    It was “what any citizen should do”, he said.
    
    McCain, a longstanding anti-Trump Republican who had disassociated himself from the candidate’s campaign weeks before the election, cast himself as an innocent and concerned member of the public as he justified his move.
    
    He claimed he had no idea whether it was accurate or not – but that he believed the FBI should have it because it was “sensitive”.
    
    “I did what any citizen should do. I received sensitive information and handed it to the FBI,” he told CNN,which broke the story that the document existed. It was then published in full by Buzzfeed.

What a great idea – the Swiss community gets a say whether locals are approved for a passport. This woman has been declined twice as her neighbours objected to her “big mouth” and frequent and public objections to local traditions. Like cow bells, church bells, hunting, piglet racing.

I can think of one or two who would be voted out of a NZ passport!

I listened to the valedictory of Obama last evening and have some difficulty trying to understand what he was saying.
We and the whole world see the once “great” country tear itself apart because the socialists did not win the election.
Obama’s legacy will be seen as the increasing race problem extending itself over the country. As one whose good? intentions was to overcome racial tension has proved to be the opposite possibly because the black people saw what they believed to be the great Messiah – he wasn’t.
He pandered to the minorities who by shouting loudest got their own way.
Now we see once again the USA make fools of themselves in the name of purity – making out that they are the only country in the world who are incorrupt, and believe they are still the only country who can rule the world.
Countries like China, Russia, North Korea and Iran are pissing themselves at the aresholes that the US is mnaking of itself. They have all spied on everybody for years so what is new ? that the corrupt socialists lost the election they thought they had bought.
Relate the money that Clinton spent against Trump. Clinton thought that over the last humiliation she had when Obama won the nomination. She has corrupted ever else on the way – and she lost.
Trump is no angel either but at least he has not yet had his foot in the Washington trough, upon which many public servants depended so they wanted Clinton to win to keep their highly paid sinecures.
Sad to hear Obama extol what is in effect his incompetent failures of one of the worse Presidents in the US.
We in New Zealand can learn a lot from this laughable fiasco.

  I heard some announcer on a music station extolling the virtues of Obama’s speech, saying ‘there wasn’t a dry eye in the audience’. after he spoke of his wonderful wife. Any Hollywood celebrity snowflake could have achieved a similar reaction; just have to know the audience are Democrats.

Many said will never own a home and quite a few can’t keep up with rent increases when wages aren’t rising.   If it makes you feel any better my 24 year old son bought his first home last year, in fairness he probably wasnt phoning in to Radio Live through the evening because he has a life.
  Quite a few of his mates are buying/saving for their first homes with a comendably frugal approach to their spending and some quite impressive overtime hours.

    Likewise Pongo, my 26yo daughter and her partner bought their first home a couple of years ago, and are loving being on the property ladder.
    
    They too live fairly frugally (she is an accountant!), they work hard, and they are already looking at climbing to the next rung of the ladder. All power to them.

    There are lessons to learn from the continued existence of “informal housing” – slums – in many parts of the world. It is quite possible for “markets” to be stacked in such a way that some proportion of the population are going to be “priced out” regardless of how hard everyone works and saves. In the western world we largely ended this phenomenon by bringing the price of urban land down precipitately, by increasing its supply dramatically, thanks to cars and roads.
    
    Reverse this process with “save the planet” urban planning, and it is not rocket science what is happening.

I can confirm that many fully employed people are in dire straights struggling to survive the ever increasing rent rises. Most could never envisage owning a property in their life times.         If you have to spend a significant proportion of a wage packet on petrol or you are spending 2 hours in traffic everyday because you live on the outskirts of Auckland then people will vote with their feet.

        Supply and demand. If there is a shortage of workers, the pay will rise, and those people will return, or others still resident in the area will change their jobs to take advantage of the opportunity for increased spending power.

  Sydney had a ‘housing problem’ when I was there in 2000.
  I don’t have much sympathy for the wanna-be house owners. If it is so important that they own a house, why don’t they go get one where they can afford it? There are jobs everywhere if they are prepared to take what’s on offer. My own small town of Pahiatua (30 minutes to PN, 1 hour to Masterton) may not have the glamour of Auckland, but there are nice homes on big sections, which are under 300k – some under 2.. And a relaxed lifestyle to enjoy without the rat race.

Well I see when temperature’s reduce like our sea’s are 1% lower over this summer than they have been in recent years the Greens and all other climate change pushers have nothing to say. When facts prove the sea is not getting warmer you would think that they would acknowledge they have not got it right and their scare mongering should stop until they find out why their so called trend seems to be reversing.

      Can other KB-ers with a few years on them, say whether they agree or not, with my own opinion: in my decades of lifetime, I can remember blistering hot summers, drought, wild weather, etc as “just what happens”. There has never been any trend towards the “more dramatic”. In fact I am sure the very hottest days I have personally experienced, going by the temperature guage, were two and three decades ago, and we haven’t matched them since.
      
      Bjorn Lomborg points this out in “The Skeptical Environmentalist”: virtually everyone believes what the enviro Chicken Littles say about everything, not just warming, but pollution as well – yet everyone, when quizzed, will say that in their own locale in their own lifetime, pollution is less and temperature and weather extremes show no trend. Everyone believes, though, that “the world” – “everywhere else” – must be getting worse just as the establishment says it is.

        Both parties have to move. And until such time as they do, the best outsiders can do to facilitate the two-state solution is to try and stop either party forcing shut a door that can never be re-opened. Such as annexation of captured territory by increment and stealth.

It’s been expanded to include allegations of direct contacts by Trump’s team with the Russians and also alleges specific agreements had been made on certain matters.

In Trump’s presser his very last question was on any team contacts with the Russians and when he walks off the stage you can hear a journo saying he didn’t answer the question, which he didn’t.

I’m hoping this story is wrong as the MSM are now saying but who the hell is dumb enough to trust anything those bastards say, these days? (Well, we know a few don’t we, but apart from them, who?)

I also point out VT esp Duff the editor (who wrote this story) has been consistently negative on Trump. But their integrity is on the line and VT is not some lightweight one man blog site which posts things based on emotion, so who knows.

It’s looking now as if it’ll die, which pleases me. I’m looking forward to seeing Trump in action. The evidence he’s a compromised player is mounting, but then, all of them are compromised, and if you don’t know that and also in which ways they are compromised, then maybe you shouldn’t bother analysing geopolitics till you do, because understanding that basic premise is geopolitics 101 stuff. It’s not a kids playground game, with goodies and baddies and the goodies are all good and the baddies, well. No. It’s not like that at all.

They might be worse than the Russians. It does look as though the FBI are taking this semi seriously and, even if none of it is true Trump has spent so much time trying to destroy his opponents with half truths, slogans and down right lies he is in no position to complain. His reputation for seediness leaves him open to any charge. No one would have got Goldengate to stick to Obama or even George Bush but a significant number of Americans will believe this of their new President.

  You’d think our idiot media could do a Sunday program on what happens to a refugee immigrant family as they go through the process, wouldn’t you.
  
  I’d love to see how much money we taxpayers spend on what, as we watch them all get registered for benefits, get allocated a house at the top of the queue which they “pay” for out of the money we give them, buy cars with “loans” we give them, “repaid” again, through deductions from the money we give them, get registered for schools or university course, paid for by us, get all the remedial medical work they all need, dental, the whole works, paid for by us, watch them shop using money we give them. See the calculated value of all these things we have given them from day one including the cost of the NZ people who’ve been involved in facilitating and executing this process, as they stay here, for year after year their whole lives. Learn what % of these category of immigrants ever go and get jobs outside of the govt sector which has suckled them for so long, and will continue for the rest of their lives.
  
  I’d really like to see something like that, in fact, I think all we taxpayers actually deserve to see something like that, don’t we.

    No what’s bad is handing everything to them on a plate without expectation of long term repayment and monitoring over time to verify such repayment is indeed occurring and doing something about it if and when it isn’t being. Especially while at the same time, other immigrants who have far greater potential to add real value to our society need to pay for the whole thing themselves and face far more rigour in every single way.
    
    Every human being has potential and lets face it these refugees have had a shit life up till they come here but the worst thing you can do to suppress the actuation of that potential is to wrap the individual in cotton wool as they do these days with the Paula Bennet-inspired phrase: “wrap around services.” Because then people naturally sit back and relax because there is no expectations laid on them to do otherwise. That’s what we’re not doing (setting expectations and monitoring them) and that’s what we should be doing, for their sake as well as ours.

        Yes I do, my dad is an immigration lawyer and through him I meet lots of them. They all say the same thing about those they come into contact with under the refugee program. What I described above really is the way it actually does work.

      I’m not going to judge the man for giving up information after being tortured.
      
      I would also find it hard to believe that the bombing operations were planned six months in advance, let alone that a prone-to-capture pilot would have it for precisely this reason.
      
      I have been reading about fire on the USS Forrestal. They seem to be based around McCain performing a ‘wet start’ of his jet engine. This is where jet fuel is dumped into the afterburner and produces flame out of the back of the engine. It was this which was reputed to have cooked off the missile that started the fire.
      However, the plane that McCain was sitting in was a) pointing away from the other planes and b) didn’t have an afterburner.

He refused an offer of early release, which led to even more extensive torture, after which he signed a ‘confession’. He was eventually released after over 5 years’ captivity. For his actions as a POW he was awarded the Silver Star and the Bronze Star.

      Isn’t the answer to that question that, whether or not the story is factual, the intelligence people thought it of sufficient concern to tell the Prez and Prez in waiting (although that now seems to be in dispute). In the post-truth world that Trump has helped create (“I saw thousands of Muslims cheering…” etc.) it is irrelevant whether something is factually correct. Truth is what people choose to believe. This story had enough pedigree to make it something more than trivial. That is the important thing these days, not whether something is true, but whether a majority of people believe it. If you want to know if it’s true, take an opinion poll. In this new world, factual and truthful are synonymous, by the way

But the mysterious dossier leaked on Tuesday about Trump and members of his team cooperating with Russian officials for at least five years—that sounded like a very destructive bit of information, or disinformation, indeed.

All the great expectations about Donald Trump that Moscow had lived with for months suddenly look like they could go down the drain, and the Kremlin won’t have its man (or what it seemed to think was its man) in the White House after all.

The spy game revealed in public looks like the proverbial wilderness of mirrors, a profusion of reflected conspiracies. Who is playing whom? Is Trump or was Trump a Russian tool? Or is this all a nefarious plot by outgoing President Barack Obama?

The closer one gets to the Kremlin, the more one hears the latter version….

  I doubt its veracity, but if true I believe the Kremlin account that they have not blackmailed him (they would wait until he was in the White House to try) and they would be mugs to try over a sex related matter (so I grabbed some Russian pussy, so what).       Probably too much Gin and Tonic before I typed that, but I still feel that the cars could have been retrieved safely. The military fight in far more unstable buildings around the world and they don’t come tumbling down at the drop of a hat.
