The USA is indirectly to blame for many of the woes facing the West.

During the Cold War the US guaranteed the security of Western Europe.

That in itself was not a problem. In fact it was a good thing.

The problem arose that the US was NOT SENDING THE EUROPEANS THE BILL.

Freed from the financial and moral responsibility for their own defence, the lefties were able to shirk genuine employment and productivity while sipping lattes in London, Paris, Rome (and Auckland) and sneer at the ‘Americans’ (dunno what the majority of ‘American’s’ who DON’T live in the USA thought of that opprobrium!) and marvel at European ‘Socialism’.

God went out the door along with the next generations of babies.

Now Europe is filling up with the adults (from the ME) they were too lazy and greedy to produce themselves, and gone is their ‘productivity’ which has been overtaken by highly motivated Asians.

50 years ago you could outsmart an Asian, just by having attended school (the Asians were too busy living hand-to-mouth). My, my, what an equaliser is the internet!

Created this century from less than ideal mergers.

No efficiency gains from a merger but a replacement model that is ‘too big to fail’ but does so anyway
Excessive expenditure on PR
Excessive number of ‘klingons’
Excessive salaries and the justification for this is the irony of a government-made merger. i.e.
The new body is ‘so much larger than before’ by definition therefore ‘it is bigger ….so staff have to be paid more’.

Terrible woes with computer systems- the German SAP involved in each case – with massive overruns without co-requisite gains in information productivity.

A castle mentality within, even though each body is there to ‘work in the best interests of its key stakeholders’ .
Fonterra for the farmer/owners;
Council for the ratepayers and citizens.
Suppliers and business partners fit into the stakeholder category.

Excessive board sizes that don’t allow easy decision making

Fonterra is meant to be addressing this .
20 councillors for Council.
Council needs representation. I mean Niue has 1000 people and 20 MPs. Now that is democracy 🙂 Sadly the quality of the 20 councillors from a pool of 1,5000,000 people is very, very low.

Both could benefit from a zero-based design from ground up that strips out circa 3000 to 4000 soft job roles.
Both could benefit from better focus on output especially maximum extracted value from output.
Council – core activity only; a comprehensive points based model for justification of any expenditure/investment outside core activity. e.g. non-core activity spend to be no more than 25% of core activity price annualised.
Fonterra – better value than 25 kg brown paper bags of milk powder that others add value to.
So many areas for improvement. I am not sure where these > 20 staff with more than $1,000,000 pa salaries add value. I state categorically they do not.
Spierings gross annual remuneration could buy a fully loaded 300-cow farm each year!
Allowing Nestle and NZ Natural to make the value-add money and pissing off Danone. It’s looking like a rigged sporting event. The top three executives have each been in NZ less than five years : Spierings, Paravicini, Chow.

Cripes I thought the ‘atomisation’ of Carter Holt Harvey in 2001 was bad. More like an explosion. Or the letter stocks at Fletchers. These mergers are no better.

President Assad represents the legitimate authority in Syria – it is not up to anyone other than the Syrian people to determine how Syria is managed and run.

I wouldn’t expect anyone to agree with my allegation that the FBI framed the Tsarnaev brothers without compelling evidence.

1. The video from the FBI shown to the jury has Tzhokhar near the road outside the Forum resturaunt. There are several reports that the explosion was on the patio, and there’s a photo which tends to confirm this. There’s also a photo of a bent barricade and what appears to be bomb victims near the kerbing, which was closer to where the video showed him to be. The video evidence doesn’t show Tzhokhar on the patio at all.

2. Neither of the backpacks worn by the brothers match the remains of a black backpack which was recovered from the event.

3. A picture from the FBI of Tzhokhar leaving the event has apparently been photoshopped to obscure his backpack.

4. The original picture given to the FBI is noticeably different in the area where his backback would have been.

5, The FBI is on record refusing to answer questions about a drill reported by multiple witnesses.

I can’t see how anyone believes that Syria can be healed. Inter-sectarian strains make that impossible without a super-oppressive police state being imposed for a generation or two (made extra hard by porous borders and interference by extra-national sectarian supporters).

After Isis are eviscerated it needs to be split up like the Balkans were.

It is Clinton’s consistency that should concern us most.

There would be no reason to do so. The disputes between Russia and NATO are solvable, and whatever one may think of Putin, he’s not a fool. He won’t push things far enough to start a war, and neither will the West. It would be a disaster for both sides.

I have had a go at Putin several times, mostly to wind Andrei up, but I really do not believe he or Russia is the enemy. Islam is. It is far better for all involved if we can find a way to solve or put our differences aside, and work together. This is one aspect of Trump’s approach that I agree with.
