This weekend I read the education policies of all three major parties. I believe National’s hold the best prospect for achieving improvement of educational outcomes.
Interestingly, the Green policy was significantly better than Labour’s, and as such I am not surprised at the trend your graphic portrays.

So what has changed apart from the arch, bullying, and dictatorial lesbians going to New York??????

Could it be that one Helen has been replaced by another?

Could it be that Labour’s concentration on envy and sexuality is not resonating with the great unwashed?

Could it be that J Key, might just, by a smidgeon or two, be judged the best option since sluiced bread ?

No that cannot be the case. Surely?????

Both Labour and national are as bad as each other . I used to think that the Labour government was the most corrupt we have had but I now know that National trump them.

The saying that a new broom sweeps clean is a true one and I believe that the best solution is to switch between blue and red brooms every 3 years.

for a brief period of time it gives us a transparent break . Two terms allows too much damage to be done . Those corrupt systems need to be broken down and not enough time needs to be available to set new ones up .

Wonder how many red thumb downs I will get for the suggesting that Governments should work for the good of the country not for their own party aspirations and the greed of their mates .

Suggest re-branding exercise is in order for this party.
“Labour” is an increasingly old fashioned and irrelevant term.
Only ones I know of who really do labouring these days are pregnant women.

Any thoughts on why the x axis has such odd spacing for the years? For example the spacing between 2005 and 2006 is much larger than 2006/2007

This is pleasing to see. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against Labour, but I think it’s unhealthy for us to only have two large parties to vote for. Unfortunately, Labour is in decline with unpleasant tactics and outright lies being engaged. And Greens are a facade of a party, standing for the environment, but really preventing anyone who uses science and logic who has the environment in mind from making something of themselves by swallowing that vote. I hope the Greens grow up and become worthy of their growing support.

I’d love to see one with all the parties that have been in existence for 10 years.

KiwiRupes, maybe it is an attempt to show where the balance of the polling was done, ie at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. (This could be because polling is more regular around certain times). Or maybe the analyst who laid this out just needs to spend more time with PowerPoint

MMP has probably accelerated Labour’s decline but this is a trend in Australia and UK. The Greens with its strong centre-left philosophy has taken votes off Labour.

Norman’s political leanings are well known as he was involved with the Socialist Workers’ Party (a revolutionary Marxist-Leninist organisation) for several years in Australia.

Dear me. The starting point is right after Labour gained power in 1999. Of course there is a downward trend, how could there not be?

Expand it to a 50 year time frame and include all the left parties, not just Labour, and you will see a very different picture. The left in NZ is alive and well, sadly. And most of the Green vote will go straight back to Labour as soon as the public sees what happens when the Greens are in government.

Bear in mind that, really, Cunliffe was the best they had.

And also bear in mind National is going into their third term, territory that is traditionally rather thorny.

No, I don’t think “the best” is necessarily right. More like the meanest and dirtiest, undermining the other alternatives and manipulating people to support him. And if you base achievement on this approach, then your future achievements are likely to be based on the same approach.. hence where they find themselves now.

The Greens are toxic to so many in middle New Zealand. The Greens and their policies have never been subject to the intense scrutiny that comes with being in Government.

I do wonder if their current polling is about their peak and that Labour, being tied at the hip like an extremely annoyed con-joined twin is going to hold both parties back from forming a workable government definitely in 2014, but as Labour head into their worst result ever, more than likely Labour will also fail in 2017.
