Youth MP Profiles

I’m always interested in demographics, so thought I would look at the demographics of the 120 Youth MPs.

69 are female and 51 are male. That’s 57.5% female – somewhat different to the normal Parliament.

We have ages for 116 of them. The breakdown is

15 – 4 (3%)
16 – 17 (15%)
17 – 57 (49%)
18 – 38 (33%)

So only one third are at the maximum age of 18.

Ethnicity may be less than wholly accurate. Only a few explicitly state ethnicity, so classifications are based on names and photos in most cases.

Asian – 5 (4%)
European – 86 (72%)
Indian – 4 (3%)
Maori – 17 (14%)
Pacific – 8 (7%)

A fairly representative bunch.
